3 Waters Treatment Operator

(Trainee) Full Time

The Opportunity

We’re looking for someone dependable, eager to learn, and physically fit to join our 3 Waters team at Gore District Council. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to grow your skills in water and wastewater treatment, this is a great opportunity to build a meaningful career in a critical services area.

You’ll assist in the daily operation and maintenance of Gore’s water and wastewater treatment plants, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant performance. You’ll also support the wider 3 Waters field team with general tasks and emergency call-outs once trained.

In addition to the above you will:

  • Operate and maintain treatment plants following manuals and best practices
  • Conduct daily checks and collect samples for lab analysis
  • Calibrate monitoring equipment (e.g., pH, DO probes, flow meters)
  • Monitor telemetry systems to identify and resolve issues
  • Perform routine maintenance of plant, buildings, and grounds
  • Support other operators and contractors
  • Participate in call-out duties and emergency responses
  • Follow health and safety procedures
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and plant rooms
  • Communicate professionally with stakeholders

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Willingness to work towards a National Certificate in Water Treatment
  • A clean and current driver’s licence
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer literacy (spreadsheets, databases, word processing)
  • Reliability and a safety-first mindset
  • Physical fitness for manual tasks
  • Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
