The Dunedin City Council is seeking two independent members to join its well-established and high-performing Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee.

The Committee operates in a culture of trust, collaboration, and open communication. Members are expected to engage effectively with one another and with those involved in the Council’s governance and management. The Committee plays a vital role in setting the tone for strong risk management and internal control across all areas of Council activity.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build constructive working relationships are essential for the Committee to deliver effective oversight, support organisational improvement, and strengthen risk management practices.

Desired Skills and Experience

We are seeking two individuals who combined bring the following capabilities:

• Broad experience in governance, assurance, and risk 
  management
• Background in asset-intensive industries and sound asset 
  management practices
• Understanding of the local government environment
• Knowledge of the regulatory framework governing local 
  authorities
• Finance    and    accounting    expertise,    including financial reporting
• Legal expertise, particularly in statutory interpretation, 
  compliance obligations, and governance-related legal risk
• Experience identifying, assessing, and advising on legal 
  risks within complex organisations
• Understanding of internal controls and assurance 
  frameworks, including the roles of internal and external 
  audit
