The Telford campus of Southern Institute of Technology, situated 6 km south of Balclutha, has an opportunity for a Casual Cook to join our catering team, providing meals for students accommodated on site.

This position is 16 hours per fortnight, worked across every second weekend.

Reporting to the Kitchen Supervisor, this role involves preparing and presenting meals, supporting kitchen operations, and ensuring high standards of food safety and cleanliness are always maintained. There may also be opportunities to step up and support kitchen operations in the Supervisor’s absence.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing and cooking meals, including special dietary requirements
• Assisting with menu delivery and food presentation
• Maintaining high standards of kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety
• Supporting stock control, storage, and rotation
• Working collaboratively with kitchen staff, students, and service providers
• Assisting with general kitchen duties as required

We are looking for someone who:

• Is reliable, flexible, and able to work independently
• Has experience in a commercial kitchen or catering environment
• Can confidently prepare meals for groups, including special diets
• Demonstrates strong communication and teamwork skills
• Has excellent time management and organisational abilities

Ideally, you will have:

• A cookery qualification or relevant industry experience
• A current Food Safety Certificate
• Experience in large-scale food preparation
• Previous experience in a similar role (preferred)
