The Mayor and Councillors seek a CEO comfortable as a visible public figure, accountable for developing high-functioning relationships with the Mayor, Elected Members and Executive Team,  who will actively build community confidence through proactive engagement.

Key priorities:

• Continuing to build workplace culture so staff feel trusted & empowered
• Bringing financial discipline to a complex capital programme in a constrained fiscal environment
• Delivering on Council decisions with full transparency and no-surprises approach 
• Building strong relationships with all key stakeholders
• Navigating significant legislative change, leading through uncertainty
• Providing strategic advice to elected members, plus execution of the strategies underpinning Council

You are an experienced CE, or exceptional executive ready to step up. Understanding of public service ethos and public sector experience strongly preferred, either in local government or comparable. You’ll be widely recognised as a strategic, successful leader who builds strong relationships, understanding what it means to serve a community. This role requires you to reside in Dunedin.

You bring:

• Proven success building a culture that develops, retains good people
• Strong financial literacy and effective management of Council’s performance
• Leadership through change, with resilience & adaptability; integrity, calm, pragmatic & inclusive style 
• Sound understanding of Te Ao Maori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
