Counsellor in Schools

Awhi Atu Programme

Central Otago REAP is seeking a compassionate, child-centred Counsellor to join our Awhi Atu Student Support Programme. This is a meaningful role supporting the wellbeing of tamariki across several local primary schools, helping to remove barriers to learning and strengthen whanau and community connections.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a visiting school-based counsellor, you will work directly with children aged 5–13 predominantly in Wanaka, delivering short-term, strengths-based support within the school setting. You’ll partner closely with teachers, whanau and other support services to ensure a holistic and culturally responsive approach to wellbeing.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking someone who brings warmth, professionalism and a genuine commitment to children’s wellbeing.

YOU WILL HAVE

  • A recognised qualification in Counselling.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive whanau relationships and work collaboratively with multiple agencies.
  • Confidence to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.
  • A full, clean NZ driver’s licence.

WHY JOIN US?

  • Work that genuinely makes a difference in the lives of tamariki and their whanau.
  • Supportive team environment.
  • Contribution toward registration and supervision costs.
  • Use of REAP vehicle.
