Grants Subcommittee – Community Representatives

We are looking for individuals with significant experience and strong, positive relationships within the wider community they are connected to and, importantly, a broad understanding of the diverse communities, cultures, and networks that make up Dunedin. Applicants should be able to demonstrate awareness of the wider community landscape beyond their own sector or interest area.

Knowledge of the full range of grants categories is highly desirable. Experience applying for funding and understanding the practical realities faced by community organisations would also be an advantage.

The Council welcomes expressions of interest from people
who are strategic and analytical thinkers, empathetic, and able to take an impartial and balanced approach to decision-making. An understanding of the evolving nature of the volunteer and community sector would be beneficial.

We strongly encourage applications from people with knowledge and/or lived experience of the diverse cultures and communities across our city.

Training for new representatives will be provided in April 2026.

Context

The Community Representatives will attend four Grants
Subcommittee meetings per year in May, July, September,
and November.

The Subcommittee comprises five Councillors, one mana whenua representative and two community representatives.

Community representatives will be paid in accordance with the Dunedin City Council’s Remuneration of External Appointees to Council Committees Policy.

Grants are run via an online process, therefore access to your own computer and the internet is vital.

There is a significant amount of reading and time spent evaluating applications prior to each meeting. The Subcommittee reads no less than 250 applications each year.

Meetings are held during weekdays (9.00am – 5.00pm).

How to apply

For further information please contact Rebecca Murray on (03) 4743487 or email gsoteam@dcc.govt.nz.

Expressions of interest should be submitted to the above email address no later than 5.00 pm on Friday, 20 March.

Members will be confirmed by the Council and will be notified in April 2026 with the first Subcommittee meeting scheduled in May. People not selected will be advised in April.
