LIM & Planning Administration Officer

Kaikoura District Council has a small, dedicated planning team working across everything from resource consents to district plan changes and strategic projects.

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-focused person to join us for a 12-month fixed term as our LIM & Planning Administration Officer, providing essential support and helping deliver high-quality information to our community.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and being at the heart of how Council serves its district.

What you’ll do

You’ll play a key role in supporting our planning function, including:

LIM Processing

  • Researching, compiling, and issuing Land Information Memorandums (LIMs)
  • Coordinating LIM information with other Council departments
  • Ensuring accurate and timely document and records management Planning Administration
  • Monitoring and responding to the Planning email inbox and public enquiries
  • Preparing info for the Resource Consents reports and distributing information as required
  • Providing administration support for resource consents – invoicing, issuing, receipting, communicating with stakeholders etc.
  • Managing and maintaining digital planning records, systems and documentation
  • Supporting planning meetings, drawing up agendas, taking minutes and ensuring follow-ups on actions identified in meetings
  • Assisting with updates to planning web pages
  • Supporting property address updates
  • Assisting with planning projects, including environmental initiatives where relevant

Experience with carbon emissions tracking or environmental data is a bonus, but not essential.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is self-motivated and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team
  • Has strong attention to detail and a logical, systematic approach
  • Is confident with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Delivers excellent customer service
  • Can juggle competing priorities and still deliver quality work
  • Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Builds positive relationships with staff, stakeholders, and the community
  • Enjoys problem-solving and improving processes

Experience in planning, resource consents, or multi-agency projects is helpful, but we’re open to a wide range of backgrounds if you bring the right attitude and capability.
