Tinwald School Classroom Release Teacher

- New Entrants

Hours: Fixed Term, Part-time, 1 day per week (every Thursday), plus additional release days as required throughout the term. Position commences Term 3 or sooner and ceases 17th December 2025. 

About the Role: Tinwald School is a contributing Primary School in the suburb of Tinwald, Ashburton. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Release Teacher to join our New Entrant team. This crucial part-time position is to provide release time for our Deputy Principal, enabling them to fulfil their leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality teaching and learning experiences for our New Entrant students, ensuring a smooth and consistent classroom environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Classroom Teaching: 
  • Plan and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate learning programmes for New Entrant students, aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum. 
  • Create a positive, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic growth of young learners. 
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies. 
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback. 

Deputy Principal Release: 

  • Provide consistent and reliable release for the Deputy Principal to undertake their Deputy Principal duties. 
  • Provide consistent and reliable release for the Deputy Principal to undertake their Syndicate Leadership responsibilities. 

Collaboration & Communication: 

  • Work collaboratively with the New Entrant team and wider school staff. 
  • Maintain clear and open communication with the Deputy Principal regarding student progress and classroom matters. 
  • Contribute positively to the school culture and community. 

Skills and Attributes: 

  • An understanding of early childhood development and effective pedagogy for New Entrant students. 
  • Strong classroom management skills with a positive and proactive approach. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with young children, colleagues, and parents. 
  • Flexibility and adaptability to cover additional release days as needed. 
  • A commitment to fostering a love of learning and providing a safe and inclusive environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • A current New Zealand Teacher Registration (Practising Certificate). 
  • A Bachelor of Education or equivalent teaching qualification. 
  • Proven experience teaching at the New Entrant or junior primary level is highly desirable. 
  • Familiarity with the New Zealand Curriculum and current educational best practices.
